Dr. Salim G. Sfeir has been the Chairman of the Board and General Manager of Bank of Beirut since 1993. He is currently the Chairman-CEO of The Bank of Beirut Group. He has been in the banking sector for four decades starting with joining the Bank of Nova Scotia in 1971. From 1980 to 1983 he occupied the position of Deputy General Manager at Banque de la Mediterranee. He founded Wedge Bank (M.E.) in 1983 and was appointed General Manager and Member of the Board of Directors. From 1985 till 1991 he held the positions of General Manager & Chief Executive Officer, Wedge Bank (Switzerland) S.A., Geneva and remained in that position until 1991. In 1992 he was appointed Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Wedge Bank (M.E).
In addition to his work in banking, Salim Sfeir has served as a lecturer in Economics, Finance and Marketing at the Lebanese University, the Lebanese American University (LAU), the Haigazian University, and the University of Saint Joseph. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Montreal and a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Detroit. He was elected Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The Lebanese American University (LAU) in 2010. He was the Vice-Chairman of the American Friends of the Middle East (AMIDEAST) until 2014 and has been a Member of the Association of Banks in Lebanon since 2006. Salim G. Sfeir was the Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker at the 2012 USEK Graduation Ceremony, and in April 2014 USEK awarded him the insignia of Doctorate Honoris Causa in Business and Commercial Sciences.
Dr. Sfeir has received many awards and honors over the years. He has been honored with the Medal of the Maronite Patriarchate, the Medal of the National Order of the Cedar, and the Medal of Friendship and High Distinction from The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has received awards from the Australian-Lebanese Chamber of Commerce, The Lebanese-German Council Lifetime Achievements, and recently he was listed in Banker Middle East Magazine as Best Banker for the year 2015 in MENA Region.
