“Social Media” is a term used to collectively describe forms of electronic communication that foster interaction, discussion and community, allowing people to build relationships and share information. USEK’s social media initiative was launched to enable the university to connect with its user-base in a new dynamic way, and to allow a rich two way conversations through social media networks such as: Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google Plus, Foursquare, Instagram.

Within any community there is a governance system in place where the rights of citizens and their freedom are respected, and online is no different. To ensure this, before providing comments and feedback on threads, make sure all the comments and contributions conform to the following:

• Inappropriate, political, religious, derogatory, bullying, sexually suggestive or abusive comments are forbidden on all USEK social media.
• USEK is known for being the most depoliticized university in Lebanon; we do not endorse the exchange of political remarks and expression.
• Positive and negative comments are acceptable and encouraged as long as conversations are carried out in a mature and civilized way. Intentionally offensive content will not be tolerated.
• All comments on USEK’s social media should be relevant to the post at hand or will be disregarded and deleted under the pretense of being spam.
• All off topic conversations, including: promotions, advertisements, jobs, and student created events, must be monitored and approved by USEK & monitored by a USEK social media specialist.
• USEK is responsible for only its own updates and comments; the university will moderate its channels so they are in line with the above guidelines, however the university will not be liable to 3rd party user generated content.

On a closing note we are not providing these guidelines to limit your freedom of speech, but rather to ensure that conversations are mutually fulfilling to all those participating. Apart from the stated above, we trust that our students will exercise best judgment when being active on our social media channels.
