Bridging the Gap between Education and Job Opportunities in the Sustainable Energy Market

On Tuesday September 16, 2014, as part of the events for the Beirut Energy Forum, the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK), the exclusive academic partner of this academic forum, organized a seminar entitled “Bridging the Gap between Higher Education and Job Offers in the Market of Sustainable Energy”. This event was hosted by the Faculty of Engineering and was held in the presence of the Ambassador of India to Lebanon, Her Excellency Mrs. Anita Nayar, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Eng. Pascal Damien, the Associate General Director and the Director of the Branches Network in Fransabank – Lebanon, Mr. Philip El Hajj, along with students and teachers.
The Head of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department, Dr. Tilda Krikor Akiki, inaugurated the seminar and talked about the numerous challenges that the energy field will face in the future, and how universities are integral in paving the way forward.

Then, Dr. Joseph El Assad, instructor at USEK and Advisor at the Lebanese Center on Energy Conservation (LCEC) and General Secretary of the World Energy Council (WEC) – Lebanon, facilitated the seminar where the Head of the MED-ENEC working team –Germany-Egypt, Dr. Court Wesger, tackled the subject “Insights into Energy Use Efficiency and the Renewable Energy Markets in the World”. He was followed by the Senior Expert in the Regional Center for Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) – Egypt, Mr. Majed Mahmoud whose presentation is entitled “Overview of the Renewable Energy Market in the Arab World”. Mr. Pierre Khoury, Chairman and General Director of the Board of the Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation, talked about “Developing Sustainable Energy in Lebanon”.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Eng. Pascal Damien, stressed the commitment of the University to academic excellence and promoting knowledge.

The seminar was brought to an end with Ambassador Nayar who presented the ITEC training program.

Finally, three outstanding students were chosen to participate in a three week training program in India, and three awards were given to outstanding students by Mr. Philip El Hajj, Associate General Director and the Director of the Branches Network in Fransabank.
