MP Michel Aoun, Head of the Change and Reform Bloc, visited on July 14, 2010 the USEK Main Campus within the framework of a tour in Keserwan district. Aoun was received by Fr. Hady Mahfouz, USEK President, in the presence of a number of monks, the University Council members, besides staff and faculty members. On this occasion, Fr. Mahfouz delivered a welcome speech pointing out that General Aoun experienced the times of triumph as well as the times of distress that Lebanon has been through, and that the way he approaches things promotes democratic thinking in the country. In turn, General Aoun expressed his pleasure that he had the chance to visit USEK again, pointing that he has known the Institution for nearly 50 years and that he maintains good relations with a number of monks in the Lebanese Maronite Order. Afterwards, Aoun had a tour across the USEK campus, and visited the Main Library wherein he was received by its Main Librarian Fr. Joseph Moukarzel. The latter presented an overview of the Library’s funds, elaborated on the restoration workshops of old manuscripts and books, the Digitization Center and the Conservation Center of Written Heritage. After visiting the different faculties and modern laboratories, Aoun received a series of the USEK publications from Fr. Mahfouz.
