On the occasion of the new academic year, the beginning of the liturgical year and on the eve of the Lebanese Maronite Order (LMO) anniversary, an inaugural Mass was held on November 9, 2011 presided by Rev. Father Abbot Tannous Nehme, Superior General of the LMO, with the participation of Rev. Fr. Hady Mahfouz, USEK President, in addition to a number of monks. The Mass was attended by the University’s Council, faculty, staff and students.
After reading the Holy Bible, Abbot Nehme underlined in his sermon the importance of the educational and humanitarian message that the University is circulating, praising the outstanding achievements of the Lebanese emigrants in foreign countries at all levels.
Then he addressed the audience asking them to keep praying to rid Lebanon of the lurking evil: “Always pray, every day, every hour and every minute, for no man knows when his hour will come. Be always ready to meet God in His kingdom”. He also called on them to be an example to others since they belong to the Holy Spirit University, and the Holy Spirit shall be therefore their patron, asking God to always be present among them.
At the end, Abbot Nehme saluted the University President and its community, hoping that this academic year will be crowned with academic success and excellence which the University has always known.
