On Monday April 28, 2014, in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy, the Student Affairs Office at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) organized a Japanese Cultural Day under the title “Discover Japan”. This event aimed to introduce Japanese civilization, culture and tradition to the students.
The day started with Mr. Masami Ichi, the First Secretary of the Embassy, who gave a presentation on university education in Japan, explaining the characteristics of Japanese universities and calling students to enroll in them. He also explained about the scholarships, granted by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Technological Sciences, for foreign students wishing to enroll in higher education institutions in Japan.
Then, Dr. Richard Dosjian, an USEK graduate, who had pursued his higher education in Japan, explained about his experience there.
This day was like a window overlooking Japan - through an exhibition on the outdoor esplanade of the University, including metal, paper and wooden art crafts and shedding light on the multiplicity of Japanese culture in terms of arts, traditions and customs. The Embassy of Japan also presented to the students a series of publications about the country, including maps, tourist guides, booklets on sports, telecommunications systems, arts, culinary matters etc.
The students were also shown how to perform the intricate Japanese paper art of origami.
Afterwards, a show of three Japanese martial arts, Aikido, Iaido and Karate, performed by a number of young men and women, took place.
The day was brought to an end by an exhibition and tasting of delicious and unique Japanese food. Finally, two Japanese movies were shown in one of the University auditoriums.
