The Student Affairs Office and the Microsoft Club (IT Office) at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) organized on October 14, 2010 the “Telecommunications Day 2010” with the support of the USEK Faculty of Sciences and with the participation of the Association of the Lebanese Software Industry (ALSI). The event, which took place at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Sciences at the USEK Main Campus, was attended by Fr. Michel Abou Tacca, Director of the Student Affairs Office, Prof. Naïm Ouaini, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences, Prof. Nehme Azoury, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Commercial Sciences, Ms. Layla Sarhan, Microsoft Director in Lebanon, Mr. Ziad Eid, IT Director, besides a crowd of experts and students.
Nearly 15 national and international companies took part in the event and exhibited the latest innovations in the field of telecommunications. The event aimed at tightening the USEK relation with topnotch telecom enterprises in order to provide the best opportunities for the USEK students to interact with representatives of different companies and thus to learn about the latest innovations in the telecom field. Furthermore, it aimed to introduce the USEK Community and students to the latest brands innovations in telecommunications, competitive prices, informative learning about the equipment and information exchange with representatives of topnotch telecom companies in Lebanon and the Middle East. The event is also to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the internet and other information and communication technologies can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide. Last but not least, the Telecommunications Day 2010 aimed at presenting with high pride the magnificent achievements of the USEK students through the USEK Microsoft Club winners of the Student Imagine Cup competition on the National level represented Lebanon in the international Imagine Cup Competition last May in Poland ranked 13 among 120 universities, besides the winners of the Nokia competition that took place earlier this year in Lebanon.
