On May 7, 2012, on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, the Student Affairs Office at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, in the presence of USEK community members, organized its annual ceremony to commemorate the Martyrs.
Following the National Anthem and a moment of silence, Mr. Khalil Abboud, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Office, delivered a speech, in which he praised the courage of the Martyrs who struggled and are still struggling for a noble cause. “This occasion should represent an opportunity to all of us to review our relation with our history and become inspired by the meaning of Martyrdom”, Mr. Abboud emphasized.
The Student speech was later delivered by Stephany Abou Chalha from the Department of Journalism and Communication, who stated that “… if the destiny of our land is to be watered with the blood of our martyrs, then our choice is resistance which ends in Martyrdom…The blood of Martyrs will not be shed in vain”, she concluded.
Last but not least, Rev. Fr. Karam Rizk, USEK Vice President, addressed the students: “Be always present and ready, be the sons and daughters of your homeland, because intellectual, mental and artistic work is the most useful, the most beneficial and the most everlasting. Serve Lebanon with your education, your art, your culture and pave the way for tomorrow through love and respect for every human being. This is the destiny of Lebanon, the destiny of the ancestors, and this is your message”.
