The alumni of the Faculty of Sciences and Computer Engineering welcomed the new students with a very warm ambiance at the Acropolis Hotel, December 5, 2003. This party was the occasion for meeting and regrouping within the big family of USEK comprising students and teachers of the Faculty with the participation of other faculties and some members of the University general services.

Pleasantly surprised, the teachers discovered in their students hidden talents of organization, animation and art.

Lena Abi Khattar was successful in her presentations. Mr. Naim Ouaini gave the welcoming speech with a retrospective view of the history of the young Faculty and its success thanks to its Dean’s efforts, Fr. Antoine Al Ahmar and his team. This Faculty being only three years old was able to prove itself in the Lebanese university landscape, with branches in Zahle and Rmeich. A special homage was addressed to those who watched over its functioning thanks to the unreserved support given by the officials of the University at their head the Rector, Fr. Karam Rizk, the Vice-Rector Fr. Hobeika and Mr. Cesar Nasr the first counselor of the Rector. Thanks were also addressed to the deans present: Fr. Touma Mhanna, Fr. Georges Azzi, and Fr. Louis Samaha, Director of the Zahle branch, Prof. Gedeon Mohasseb, and the officials from the different faculties.

Afterwards the Dean of the Faculty, Fr. Antoine Al Ahmar, touched by the eulogistic introduction given by Lena, thanked in his turn those who have honored the Faculty by their presence considering the students members of the large family which is the Faculty that gathers the administration, the teachers and the students. He ended by warmly thanking the party’s organizers who allowed for the meeting of persons in order to celebrate together the new university year.

In the name of the students Amine Abdallah thanked the Rector, the Dean, and the teaching body for their kindness and attachment to the success of their education.

The Fr. Rector ended with a eulogy of the Faculty that has attained this stage of development in spite of its youth. He expressed his great satisfaction at seeing the students, teachers and members of the administrative body’s attachment to USEK through their presence. He concluded by wishing everybody a pleasant time.

They danced to the rhythm of music in a friendly ambiance. Ms. Rihab Al Helou touched the audience with her song dedicated to USEK, accompanied by the Bouzouki. Elie Zaghrini performed songs in English that surprised his teachers. However, Charbel Abi Saab teased the teachers present by successfully imitating them giving mathematics or computer classes or even exam supervisions.
