Bechara Nehme is an associate professor in the Department of Electrical, Telecommunications and Computer Engineering at the School of Engineering. Having joined USEK in 2016, he currently serves as the Head of Department of Electrical, Telecommunications and Computer Engineering, on the Admissions and Transfer Committee, and on the Faculty Search Committee of the School of Engineering.
His research focuses on renewable energy, specifically photovoltaic (PV) energy sources and their associated control systems. He has conducted in-depth studies on the degradation modes of PV panels and has worked on extending their lifespan. He has developed many control algorithms applicable to different renewable energy sources: solar water heater control, fault detection in PV modules, design optimization of PV systems, and energy management systems. Bechara has also developed several didactic systems aimed at fostering creativity and entrepreneurship among engineering students.
He has authored and co-authored multiple book chapters, journal articles, and conference proceedings. He serves as a reviewer for various journals and conferences and has received several research and academic grants. His contributions to the academic community also include organizing numerous scientific conferences, seminars, and workshops.
Bechara serves as the secretary of the IEEE RAS, IM & CS - Lebanon joint Chapter and as the treasurer of the IFToMM federation in Lebanon. He is a member of the Order of Engineers and Architects of Beirut and the Lebanese Solar Energy Society.
