The Administrative Committee of the Greater Lebanon was the first parliament of the Greater Lebanon proclaimed in 1920 following the international mandate granted to France. This Committee headed by Daoud Ammoun established the political and administrative foundations of the new State, recovering the aspirations of freedom and independence to the country of the Cedars. A leading figure of this movement, Daoud Ammoun represents the prototype of the nationalist leader struggling for the triumph of the principles of modernity and progress in the midst of turmoil in the Levant. At the Peace Conference in 1919, this francophone liberal asked for and obtained the political independence of the Greater Lebanon. After having assumed several key positions throughout his life, he headed the works of the Administrative Committee of the Greater Lebanon, giving an impetus to a significant moral and political modernization process.
This book, which is more than just a monograph, aims to outline the major challenges that Lebanese society encountered during the critical period of its political affirmation on the international level.
