The Archbishop Youssef El-Hayek (1885–1964) was Caesar Melhem El-Hayek, a Marionite cleric. He was born in Bayt Chabab where he first went to school. His life was enriched with a wide variety of spiritual, humanitarian and literary activities. Besides preaching about religious matters and life issues in general, he left behind a rich legacy as a Lebanese playwright. His plays are about faith and the importance of strengthening of souls, based on ethics, struggling against corruption, vice, and advocacy to show honor and loyalty to the homeland and its people. He also attributes a key role for the woman in his plays and makes her the main character.
