This book is a heritage publication, which the Phoenix Center for Lebanese Studies has put at the disposal of readers so that they can become acquainted with their theater heritage, which remains unknown to the vast majority of scholars and researchers.
The Phoenix Center published this useful book on playwright Khalil Tannous Bakhos with the aim of assessing the scope of his extraordinary contribution to the 19th century Lebanese heritage drama movement.
The purpose of this book is to look into the minute drama data mentioned in Bakhos’ plays, while listing his observations and screening any incoming or outgoing information. It also provides readers with background on the author’s era, family and cultural and theatrical achievements, as illustrated by his three plays: The ploughman in 1887, Dimitrios in 1887 and Sheroueh in 1891.
Our dear readers will hopefully enjoy reading these three plays, which are published in the second part of the book. This calm and artistic reading will allow them to identify with each figure in these plays so that they experience the pleasure of a peaceful reading. Indeed, reading a play is entirely different from reading any other literary work.
