Youssef Francis El-Berri (1864–1939) was a kawwal (performer) and painter. He learned Arabic and Syriac in the school of Aain Warka. His paintings and sculptures are showcased in monasteries and churches, and his zajal poems were spread among people, while some of them were published in books and magazines. “The Flower of Lebanon and the Echo of Keserwan” examines what is known of his biography with selections of his zajal poems, published in three books: the first praising the Notables, the second documenting World War I, and the third including wooing poems and zajal dialogues.
