Antoine Younan is an architect and assistant professor in the Department of Architecture at the School of Architecture and Design. He joined USEK in 1992 as an Architecture Studio instructor and currently serves as coordinator of the Final Design Studio.
After earning his Architecture degree from USEK, Antoine pursued further studies and internships in several foreign institutions, including architecture schools in Strasbourg, France, and Laval University in Quebec. His professional career began at the Jean Nouvel agency in Paris, where he participated in many international competitions. Upon returning to Lebanon, he founded YDESIGN and worked on large-scale architecture and urban design projects across Lebanon, the Gulf region, Africa, and Europe. His milestone project with his partner ACT is the city center of Yanbu Al-Sinayiah, KSA, including its 3 key buildings: the RCHQ Headquarters, the Cultural Center, and the Civic Center.
He is the winner of several awards in Lebanon and the Near East, including recognition for the Order of Engineers and Architects building in Bekaa, the Beirut Harbour’s passenger station (2nd price), the Saudi Economists’ Association building, and was shortlisted for the Lebanese Architect Awards (LAA) in 2017. As an academician, Antoine has been actively involved in teaching architecture and research. He has participated in several projects and conferences in Lebanon and abroad through collaborations with European universities and the American Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA). He has guided students to win many competitions, such as the Mimar Sinan prize, Isustain Award, Archiprix, and most recently the Saint Gobain Multi Comfort student contest.
The Mediterranean landscape and the identity of contemporary architecture in Lebanon form the foundation of his scholarly pursuits inspired him to publish articles in architecture journals, such as the International Manual of Planning Practice (ISOCARP, AIU, IGE, 1995). Some of his projects have been featured in design magazines, like the Lebanese Architects (2013 edition) by Universal Publishers.
