Chafic Saliba is a distinguished academic and professional in the field of financial economics, currently serving as an Assistant Professor at the USEK Business School and has been the Director of the CIRAME Research Center since 2022.
Chafic is recognized for his extensive research in financial economics, banking, and energy, with a strong emphasis on economic integration and risk management. His work has been published in several high-impact, SSCI-indexed journals. Among his notable publications is the study titled "Does Country Risk Impact the Banking Sectors’ Non-Performing Loans? Evidence from BRICS Emerging Economies," which explores the relationship between country risk factors and the banking sector's stability in emerging markets. This research has significantly contributed to understanding how economic and environmental factors interact in various global contexts, addressing topics such as the impact of energy-related uncertainties on renewable energy demand in developed economies, the role of governance in banking sector sustainability, and the dynamic relationship between renewable energy, economic growth, and CO2 emissions in China.
In addition to his academic roles, Chafic brings practical expertise to his position as a Risk Analyst and Business Development professional at Mearco Assurance SAL. His responsibilities include developing risk management policies, conducting detailed analytics, and performing qualitative stress tests on various risks, including strategic, insurance, credit, and market risks.
He has been recognized for his contributions to research and academia, receiving the Best Researcher award at the 2023 Research and Innovation Award Ceremony at USEK. He is also an active reviewer for several prestigious journals, including the Sustainability Journal, Heliyon Journal, and Geological Journal, reflecting his deep engagement with the academic community.
Throughout his career, Chafic has participated in numerous seminars and conferences, both as an attendee and a speaker, sharing his insights on topics such as life and non-life insurance, the Lebanese and Middle Eastern insurance markets, and advanced management strategies. His commitment to advancing knowledge is also reflected in his active participation in numerous academic conferences and workshops. He has presented at prestigious events such as the International Conference on Empirical Economics and Social Sciences (ICEESS, Online), the International Conference on Applied Economics and Finance (ICOAEF, Online), and the International Conference on Latin America and the Middle East Crises in Comparison (USEK, Lebanon). Furthermore, he has enhanced his expertise through specialized training, including the Education Development Center US AID Grant Writing workshop at Florida State University (March 2024) and several Scopus and Web of Science training webinars hosted by Elsevier, focusing on content selection and citation databases.
