Christelle Stephan-Hayek is an associate professor of French Language and Literature in the Department of Languages and Literatures at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Having joined USEK in 2002 as a lecturer, she currently serves as the Associate Dean for Humanities and Social Sciences at the Doctoral College, the Doctoral Studies Coordinator at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and the Head of the Research Unit “Patrimony and Identity” at the Higher Center for Research.
Her research interests span French and Francophone literature, particularly the questions of identity, memory, and language. Much of her work analyzes Francophone literature in relation to its socio-cultural context, particularly concerning identity. She is the author of over 40 papers on French and Francophone literature and she has supervised more than 10 PhD students and over 30 MA theses. She is regularly invited to be part of PhD thesis juries at other universities.
Christelle is also a trainer of trainers, notably with the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF). She provides training on literature classroom management, innovative methods of teaching language and literature, as well as the status of writing and readership in the 21st century. Additionally, she has been a certified corrector-examiner for official French exams (DELF, DALF and TCF) since 2013.
