Elie Barakat is a professor of cinema in the Department of Cinema and TV at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. He joined USEK in 2023 as a lecturer.
His research interests encompass the pursuit of “beauty” in different forms of visual arts and the paradox between absence and presence in the image. Much of his work explores the conditions under which the presentation and representation of death in cinema play an optimal role in film composition.
Between 2017 and 2024, Elie had four photo exhibitions: “When I Looked at You”, “It’s Not All Hearts and Flowers”, “As I Walked Along the Beach”, and “I Saw a Tree and I waited for You to See It”. Additionally, he created a short documentary, “Eme-Li”, which won the Best Lebanese Documentary prize, and the short film “Shadows in a Frame” which received the Special Mention Award for Best Asian Narrative at the Global University Film Awards (GUFA) in Hong Kong. He also produced an experimental short film, “Borha”.
