Nabil Nemer is a professor of Forest Entomology and Insect Chemical Ecology at the Department of Agricultural and Food Sciences at the School of Engineering. Having joined USEK in 2011 as an assistant professor, he currently serves as the Director of the Higher Center for Research and as the Associate Dean of Doctoral Studies for Science and Technology at the College of Doctoral Studies.
He has contributed to the management of insects in forest and agricultural ecosystems at both national and regional levels, describing hundreds of insect species in the Lebanese agricultural and forest ecosystems. His research includes using drone technology for insect control and detection, alternative methods of insect control, and studying the impact of climate change on biodiversity.
Nabil is the author of 80 peer-reviewed publications and more than 40 publications (posters, leaflets, booklets) designed for agricultural extension in Lebanon, in collaboration with international and local institutions and NGOs such as FAO, GEF, UNEP, UNDP, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, YMCA, Creative Associates, and RMF. His topics include insect and disease pests, pesticides, safety measures for pesticide applicators, conservation agriculture, establishment of plant nurseries, pruning, and grafting,
He has lectured and co-organized several workshops and seminars on agriculture insect pests, sustainable agriculture, establishment of nurseries, crop production, forest insect pests, forest ecology, nature reserves, climate change and biodiversity with local and international institutions in more than 12 countries worldwide. He is a member of 3 nature reserves committees appointed by the Ministry of Environment, member of the National Organization Committee to combat desertification and climate change at the Ministry of Agriculture, and member of the Conservation Agriculture Committee.
Nabil has participated in many international panels and was a speaker at the French Assembly in December 2019, discussing the threats to forests and sustainable development. He serves as a reviewer for many scientific journals in the fields of agriculture, forests, and sustainability.
