Rita is an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the School of Engineering. Having joined USEK in 2018 as a research and teaching assistant, she currently serves as the admission coordinator at the School of Engineering and as a member of the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) board.

Her research interests include biomass gasification, tar treatment, bioenergy, residential water treatment, and waste incinerators. A significant part of her work has focused on modeling, designing, optimizing, and economically analyzing systems for tar treatment in biomass gasification. In addition, she has made numerous contributions to the development of sustainable energy solutions, particularly in tar removal at low temperatures, which has paved the way for the efficient conversion of biomass into biomethane.

Rita is the first author of four papers on biomass gasification and tar treatment.
