Sophie Julien is a professor of nutrition and metabolism in the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS). Having joined USEK in 2016 as an associate professor, she currently serves as a member of the FAS Search Committee.
Her research focuses on the nutritional status and lifestyle habits associated with non-communicable diseases, including cancer, obesity, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome, with emphasis on adherence to the Mediterranean diet.
Before joining USEK, Sophie was a lead investigator at the SICS of ASTAR-NUS in Singapore. She previously served as vice-president for academic affairs and delegate for student affairs at the University of Sherbrooke, Canada. In 2009, she was awarded the Best Research of the Year award for her work at the Goodman Cancer Research Center at McGill University, Canada, published in Nature Genetics, and holds a patent resulting from this research.
Sophie is also an editorial board member for PLOS One journal and an academic editor for the International Journal of Chronic Diseases and Frontiers in nutrition journals. She is also an active member and certified wellness coach from the International Association of Wellness Professionals. She has contributed her expertise as a consultant for the WHO, supporting the Ministry of Public Health in developing a national nutrition strategy for Lebanon.
