Walid Harb is an associate professor and Head of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. With over two decades of experience at USEK, he has been actively contributing to the academic and research community.
His research interests focus on sustainable development, particularly emphasizing sustainability metrics through the application of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Multi Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) techniques. His work involves assessing the environmental, social, and economic impacts of processes, products, and services with the goal of advancing sustainable practices.
In 2018, Walid gained recognition as a national expert in Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCR). His impactful contributions include a pilot study on Lebanese wine, the findings of which were published in the International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment.
In addition to his academic and research pursuits, Walid co-leads the SWaTH project, an Erasmus+ initiative focused on Sustainable Wastewater Treatment for Hospitals. His commitment to developing innovative solutions for environmental challenges within healthcare facilities showcases his leadership in the field.
Walid’s contributions extend beyond research, as he actively mentors and guides students in their scientific endeavors. His comprehensive expertise in computational chemistry and biochemistry, combined with his dedication to sustainable development, has solidified his reputation as a respected figure in the scientific community.
