Youssef Abi Raad is an associate professor of music education at the School of Music and Performing Arts. Having joined USEK in 2007 as an assistant professor, he has taught a variety of subjects throughout his academic career, such as music education, history of world music, music criticism, and psychology and music, at USEK and in other Lebanese universities. He currently serves as the Head of Music programs, Associate Dean of the School of Music and Performing Arts, and student advisor.
His research interests center on music teaching with much of his work focused on integrating music in school programs, mainly through statistics, performance evaluation, and Rahbani music integration into school curricula. Youssef is the co-author of two music schoolbook series in French and English respectively, titled: Musique à ma portée and Music all the Way, for grade 1 to grade 6 students.
In addition to overseeing Christmas musicals at the Jesus and Mary School, he has contributed to putting on stage several musicals at school and university levels, including:
- Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Coat (with Saint Joseph School students, Kornet Chahwan).
- The Cats (with Jesus and Mary School students).
- Hair (with LAU students).
A former choir and concert manager for the Bickfaya Parish Choir (1976-1988) and the Jesus and Mary School Choir ((1990-2006), he has managed and conducted choirs for Caritas, Saint Joseph School, Jesus and Mary School, and Champville concerts. Youssef has also lectured in several scientific and international conferences.
