The University Hospital Center of Notre Dame de Secours (CHU-NDS) – Jbeil and the Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, in collaboration with the Order of Biologists in Lebanon, organized on April 21, 2011 the 7th Clinical Biology Day of CHU-NDS, at the CHU-NDS Main Amphitheater – Jbeil.
The guest speaker, Prof. Ismaïl Elalamy, from Tenon Hospital, Paris, underlined in his speech the clinical usefulness of D-dimers, its pertinent realities and potentialities. He presented and explanation about heparin monitoring, its needs and unmeets, stressing that the anticoagulant therapy with heparin has been the cornerstone of treatment and prevention of thrombosis for many decades.
In his welcome speech, Dr. Christian Haddad, Director of Laboratories of CHU-NDS, shed light on the cutting-edge equipment of the CHU-NDS laboratories and the regular training of technicians. He also pointed out that the hospital has recently acquired the latest robots which reduce human intervention and hence the risk of errors. “CHU-NDS has been classified in rank A according to the criteria of the Lebanese ministry of Health, contributing therefore to establish a solid relation of trust between patient and our laboratories”, Dr. Haddad concluded. In turn, Rev. Fr. Michel Eliane, Director of CHU-NDS, highlighted in his speech that “encouraging medical research represents one of our priorities because it is part of our mission: to cure patients. The disease never takes a break; it becomes rather worse, it is in constant progress. It can strike anywhere, anytime and anyone”. Fr. Eliane concluded by asserting that “we must never forget that behind diseases and medical sciences, there are sick men and women born in the image of Jesus who are suffering. Yes, the research allows us, health professionals, to stay at the forefront of medical technology; but it allows us also and above all to remain at the forefront of humanity”.
Prof. Georges Chahine and Dr. Myrna Haddad presented a lecture on the theme of disseminated intravascular coagulation and venous thromboembolism, and more particularly on the role of the D-dimer in the diagnostic of emergency cases. Dr. Elissar Nohra and Dr. Tamima El Jisr dealt with the limits of the biomonitoring of the unfractionated heparin treatments. At the end, Dr. Rachoine Rachoine and Dr. Rita Feghali discussed various clinical cases.
