Ambassador of Chile lectures at USEK

The Ambassador of Chile in Lebanon H.E. Mr. Pedro Barros, presented a lecture on May 12, 2011 within the framework of a series of lectures for the 2010 – 2011 academic year, given by the ambassadors of Latin America in Lebanon, organized by the Higher Institute of Political and Administrative Sciences and the Center of Studies and Cultures of Latin America (CECAL) at USEK, under the theme of: “Foreign Policy – Latin America and its Relations with the Middle East”.

Barros underlined in his lecture that the current foreign policy of Chile aims at achieving developmental goals, such as eradicating extreme poverty, increasing per capita income and providing job opportunities. With regard to bilateral relations of the Chile with the Middle East, Barros highlighted that the attention given to this region remains efficient especially through the active response of Chile with calls for cooperation, stressing that the stance of Chile regarding the Middle East is based on the respect of international rights and UN resolutions. As for Lebanon, Barros indicated that since 1945, diplomatic relations are still maintained with Lebanon due to its values based on pluralism, tolerance, independence and democracy.
