Ambassador of Uruguay lectures at USEK

The Ambassador of Venezuela in Lebanon H.E. Mr. Jorge Luis Jure Arnoletti , presented a lecture on May 5, 2011 within the framework of a series of lectures for the 2010 – 2011 academic year, given by the ambassadors of Latin America in Lebanon, organized by the Higher Institute of Political and Administrative Sciences and the Center of Studies and Cultures of Latin America (CECAL) at USEK, under the theme of: “Foreign Policy – Latin America and its Relations with the Middle East”.

Arnoletti started with a historical and geographical overview on Uruguay, pointing out that it took more than one hundred years for Uruguay to demarcate its land and sea borders with both Argentina and Brazil. Moreover, Arnoletti underlined that the first rapprochement between the Uruguay and the Middle East took place through Lebanon due to the waves of immigration, asserting that” Uruguay represented to Lebanon a home for thousands of Lebanese who settled in Uruguay as a wealthy and well-developed country”. He added that Uruguay has been always aware of protecting the rights of minorities, stressing that “the human being should represent the main objective of any political vision”.
