November 30 and December 16, 2011
Ciné Juridique

Within the framework of a global strategy set by the Faculty of Law at USEK and, in order to promote teaching techniques, an audio visual project entitled “Ciné Juridique” was launched, in order to transmit legal knowledge to both the students of the Faculty of Law and other Faculties.

On November 30 and December 16, 2011, respectively, as part of this strategy, the Faculty of Law organized a screening-debate on the movies Law Abiding Citizen and Fracture; both raising a number of legal and juridical issues. After watching the main parts of each movie, an open debate took place between the students themselves. Another debate took place between students and teachers. Both debates were organized in order to discuss each of the legal problematic issues that the movies addressed.

This unique experience helped the teachers discover the psychological and ethical aspects in their students’ characters and, at the same time, allowed students to become acquainted with the thoughts of their teachers, concerning the intersection of social values with ethical and legal values.

The “Ciné Juridique” represents, therefore, a pioneering experience launched by the Faculty of Law at USEK for the first time in Lebanon, an experience which has had a great impact on the character of the Faculty’s students. The Faculty hopes that such an experience will become available to Civil Society in the future, since it has an efficient role in educating people about Human Rights and the State of law.
