Concert “Musical Genres of Eastern Europe” by Ensemble Vinorosso

On March 13, 2012, The Faculty of Music at The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK), organized a concert entitled ‘Musical Genres of Eastern Europe’”. This concert was performed by Ensemble Vinorosso, composed of Miroslav Grahovac, accordion, Florian Stubenvoll, clarinet, Mike Turnbull, percussion, and took place in collaboration with the Kulturzentrum (Lebanese-German Cultural Centre) of Jounieh.

At the beginning of the concert, Rev. Fr. Youssef Tannous, Dean of The Faculty of Music at USEK, made a speech, in which he stated “…the delight of the Faculty in hosting this concert which, on the one hand, renews cooperation with the Lebanese-German Cultural Centre, and, on the other hand, offers us the opportunity to make a musical visit to a number of countries in Eastern Europe”. He pointed out that “…if we believe that music, as an art, is a universal language with physiological and psychological impact, we cannot be indifferent when we listen to any kind of traditional music. This will make us enjoy the beauty of this music and reveal its secrets. Musical pluralism, worldwide, makes the musician more like a bee that, in an attempt to produce good quality honey, collects pollen from a variety of flowers”.

For ninety minutes, the audience delighted in listening to dance music and Eastern European melodies, reflecting the musical heritage of different countries within Eastern Europe, from Poland to Turkey, journeying through Romania and the whole of the Balkan region. In particular, Ensemble Vinorosso performed musical rhythms related to love and weddings.
