Concert of Lebanese and Arabic songs

On Thursday May 23, 2013, the Faculty of Music at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) organized a concert of Lebanese and Arabic songs, performed by the Arabic Music Choir. The choir was led by Ms. Ghada Chbeir, and took place in the presence of the Patriarchal Vicar for the diocese of Sarba, Bishop Paul Rouhana, the Superior General of the Lebanese Maronite Order, Rev. Fr. Abbot Tannous Nehme, the University Vice-President for International Relations, Rev. Fr. Georges Hobeika and the Dean of the Faculty, Rev. Fr. Youssef Tannous.

During the hour long concert, members of the Choir performed musical pieces that ranged between old songs, famous songs, poems and folkloric songs, reminding those present of their authentic Arabic music heritage. The elite of professional musicians accompanied the Choir.

It is noteworthy that the “Arabic Choir” of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik is mainly interested in traditional Arab music heritage and the folklore of Arab countries, in addition to authentic Lebanese and Arabic songs. The choir is affiliated to the Faculty of Music and is mainly composed of the students of Arabic singing from that Faculty. The Choir has performed a number of concerts within Lebanon, throughout the rest of the Arab world and in the West. It has recorded more than 15 albums concerned with Lebanese and Arabic musical heritage, which have been produced by the Faculty of Music. Among these albums, ten are divided into two collections entitled “Orientals”.
