On the occasion of the World Patient Safety Day and in the presence of H.E. Mgr. Gabriele Caccia, Apostolic Nuncio in Lebanon, the Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) and the University Medical Center of Notre Dame de Secours - (CHU-NDS) Jbeil, organized on February 11, 2011 a ceremony in honor of: Dr. Philippe Matta, Dr. Antoine Sfeir, Dr. Ramez Awad, Dr. Joseph Salloum, Dr. Joseph Khoury, Dr. Nazih Mahfouz and Dr. Emile Brihi. This ceremony was organized as an appreciation of their professional journey paved with giving and sacrifices for more than forty years, and during which they contributed to turn a small hospice into a university hospital considered among the most important in Lebanon and this with the continuous support of the Lebanese Maronite Order.
Following the welcome speech by Ms. Lea Yahchouchi, Prof. Jean-Claude Lahoud, Dean of the USEK Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences, presented an overview of the hospital since its foundation till the present and underlined that the hospital is proud today “of its cutting-edge technologies and therapeutic materials due to which we have been able to save many lives and lessen pain”. In turn, Rev. Fr. Michel Eliane, Director of the CHU-NDS, pointed out in his speech that the university hospital is committed to the main values of the Lebanese Maronite Order that are reflected through the well-being of all people; he added that this strong determination to help people would not have been possible without the unconditional commitment of the medical body, particularly of the medical doctors. Whereas Rev. Fr. Hady Mahfouz, USEK President, highlighted in his speech that these medical doctors deserve indeed to be honored since they have never failed to deploy all necessary efforts in the service of the patient, especially in times wherein urgent need to social solidarity proves to be imperative in order to promote our society and reduce its pains”.
Following a musical interlude animated by Ms. Rafka Fares and accompanied by Mr. Elie Harden on the piano, the Apostolic Nuncio and Fr. Mahfouz delivered the USEK insignia to the honored medical doctors.
