The Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences at USEK and the Cardiology Division at the University Hospital of Notre Dame de Secours (UH-NDS) organized on November 18 and 19, 2011 the 6th Cardiac Electrophysiology Congress under the title of “ HeartRhythm 2011” at the auditorium of the UH-NDS – Byblos.
The opening ceremony was attended by MP Dr. Walid El Khoury, Rev. Fr. Charbel Beirouty, Superior of the Monastery of Notre Dame de Secours, Rev. Fr. Elias Saiid, Financial Director at the UH-NDS, Prof. Jean Claude Lahoud, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Medical Sciences at USEK, Mr. Ziad Hawat, Mayor of Byblos, and Prof. Maurice Khoury, President of the Working Group of Arrhythmia and representative of the Lebanese Society of Cardiology.
The opening ceremony was inaugurated with the speech of Dr. Antoine Kossaify who stressed the importance of USEK’s support in the organization of the colloquium and then presented an overview on the Lebanese Maronite Order and the positive role it is playing in supporting scientific colloquiums. Dr. Maurice Khoury discussed the history of electrophysiology in Lebanon, indicating that there are five laboratories in Lebanon, four out of which exist in Beirut while the fifth is located in the UH-NDS. Fr. Elias Saiid highlighted the importance of sciences and medicine in the service of human beings and humanity. At the end of the opening ceremony, Prof. Massimo Passetti dealt with the heart transplant surgeries in France.
The colloquium included five sessions conducted by a number of Lebanese and foreign specialists in the field of electrophysiology, covering in general electrophysiology and emergency cases, reanimation techniques using the methods of hypothermia, interventional electrophysiology, importance of heart imaging in case of heart failure, post-surgical rhythmic troubles, importance of remote monitoring in case of heart failure, etc.
