The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) organized a colloquium entitled “Between Freedom of Expression and Ethics: What are the Limits of Media?”.
This event, hosted by the School of Law and Political Sciences, took place on Monday, June 17, 2019, at 2:30 p.m., in the Jean El Hawa Auditorium.
With the expansion of social networks and platforms, the right to freedom of expression is at its peak. However, in a world overwhelmed with information, filtering is necessary: are "freely" expressed statements always consistent with privacy and ethics? The Lebanese Parliament will soon have to consider a new draft law on the press and media prepared by the Ministry of Information, in collaboration with the Syndicate of Journalists and the Syndicate of Lebanese Press Editors, hence the topical aspect of these issues.
This research activity, which is part of the work of the USEK Center for Human Rights, will strive to set the limits for media to find the balance between freedom of expression, laws, and ethics.
