The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) organized a conference on “The Future of the Rachid Karami International Fair”, animated by the guests below:

• Mr. Wassim Naghi, Professor at the Lebanese University, former president of the Union of Mediterranean Architects (UMAR)
• Ms. Maya Hmeidan, Cultural heritage management specialist
• Ms. Renata Negrelly, Cultural attaché at the Embassy of Brazil
• Mr. Ahmad Nabulsi, independent filmmaker
• Messrs. Nicolas Fayad and Charles Kettaneh, two architects and founding partners at East Architecture Studio

This event, hosted by the School of Architecture and Design and the International Affairs Office, in collaboration with the Institut français de Jounieh, took place on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 3:00 p.m., in the Conference Hall.

As a unique complex in the Middle East recently added on the UNESCO list of World Heritage in Danger, the Rachid Karami International Fair in Tripoli was designed in 1962 by renowned Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer. This emblematic 70-hectare site remains a key architectural achievement of 20th-century modernism in the Middle East and a remarkable example of intercontinental cultural collaboration.
