The Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK) organized a colloquium entitled “Maritime and Marine Governance in Lebanon: Taking Stock for Action”.
This event, hosted by the School of Law and Political Sciences, in collaboration with Robban Assafina, a leading Arabic-English magazine specialized in shipping and marine technology, took place on Friday, June 21, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in Father Etienne Sacre Auditorium.
Lebanon is still grappling to tap into the prospects of offshore oil and gas exploration and development in the hope of making comeback as an effective player in the regional and global maritime and logistics arena. Meanwhile, Lebanon’s coastal features have witnessed large-scale devastation from the combined effects of wars, instability and misguided public policies. Today, Lebanese communities along the coast experience some of the highest rates of environmental pollution and health hazards ever recorded.
In order to shed light on the importance of sound maritime and marine governance policies and laws, this colloquium will address the merits and challenges of the Lebanese nation as a country bordering the sea.
