TRD220Initiation to Translation

This course’s objective is to introduce the student to the preliminary Translation strategies, let him acquire its techniques, and apply these general rules by solving exercises. It introduces the student to different types of translation: general translation and mainly journalistic translation, the literary, philosophical, poetic, scientific (ecological, medical, technological…), economical, religious, legal translations… It familiarizes him with the technical procedures of translation that he will use in his professional life.
TRD310Methodology and Rules of Translation

The goal of this course is to bring students to discover, by themselves and through texts, the fundamental principles of “Translation Studies” by making them confront its various theories. It also allows them to go beyond the limits of correspondence translation (transcoding), towards interpretive translation or by equivalences, by giving the context as much importance as the text, and by helping them understand, through practice, the stages and the mechanisms of the interpretive theory of translation.

This intermediate-level course is designed to enhance the translation skills of early career translators. Building upon the foundational knowledge acquired in TRD220, students will delve into more complex texts, diverse genres, and specialized terminology. Through a combination of theoretical insights, practical exercises, and real-world applications, participants will refine their translation techniques and develop a deeper understanding of the translation process.
TRD323Localization and Transcreation

This course explores the concepts and techniques of localization and transcreation in translation. It covers the adaptation of content to specific cultures and markets while preserving the intended message and brand identity. Students will learn practical skills for localizing various types of content, including software, websites, marketing materials, and multimedia. The course emphasizes creative adaptation and cultural sensitivity.
TRD421Legal Translation A-B/B-A

The course aims at introducing students to major legal documents and to the language used to write them. It also seeks to show the importance of respecting the relevant structures and terms. Students will therefore learn to tell the difference between the structure of a law, a decree, a contract, etc., and to find the appropriate equivalence in the target language. Moreover, the course aims at showing the importance of rigour, clarity and consistency in translating texts in which there is no room for vagueness or inaccuracy.

This course provides comprehensive training in project management and quality assurance specifically tailored to the field of translation, equipping students with the skills to efficiently oversee translation projects while ensuring the highest standards of linguistic accuracy and client satisfaction.

TRD427 - Economic Translation A, B, C
This course aims to introduce students to the understanding of economic reasoning and fundamental concepts and mechanisms of the economy at the national and international levels, to familiarize them with the specific terminology in this area and help them to translate specialized texts from French, English and Arabic and vice versa. It also prepares students to specific techniques involved in producing economic translations. Throughout the course, emphasis will be placed as well on the importance of the translator complying with the relevant linguistic, terminological, and stylistic norms of economic writings and translations. Besides, the course develops students’ skills to critically analyze current events being debated within the field of economics.
Mission
One of the missions of the program is to enable students who would like to promote inter-linguistic and intercultural communication, to acquire the basics of the art of translation from English, French or Arabic to each one of these languages.
The Department is concerned in training students to practice written multilingual translation.
