Research

1. Research Input
The process begins with academic discovery and the creation of a new technology, representing the foundational research, the initial idea generation and proof of concept.

2. Invention Disclosure Submission
Researchers submit an Invention Disclosure to the TTO, formally detailing the invention and initiating the transfer process.

3. Evaluation
The TTO helps the inventor in the prior art search and conducts an evaluation of the technology, focusing on technical feasibility, commercial potential, and market alignment.

4. IP Protection
This step explores various IP protection options (e.g., patents, copyrights, trade secrets) to safeguard the invention, developing an intellectual property roadmap.

5. Market Opportunity Analysis
Conduct a market analysis to assess demand, identify potential partners, and estimate economic value.

6. Marketing
Present the technology to potential industry partners, investors, or licensees, showcasing its benefits and applications.

7. Negotiation
Engage in negotiation with interested parties, focusing on terms for licensing agreements or commercialization strategies.

8. Licensing or Startup Spinouts
Decide between licensing the IP to an existing company or creating a startup (spinout) to bring the invention to market.
Key Considerations:
  • Licensing Potential: Is there an interested company?
  • Startup Potential: Can the invention serve as the basis for a startup?
  • Partnering Opportunities: Are there co-development possibilities with industry partners or investors?

9. Revenue Generation and Management
Manage revenue generation through product sales, services, or other applications, ensuring compliance and fair profit distribution among all parties.

10. Continuous Industry-Focused Research and Development
Maintain ongoing R&D, including proof of concept, prototype development, testing, and validation throughout the entire process to enhance commercial viability.
