H.E. Dr. Claudia Fritsche

Claudia Fritsche looks back to a career of 42 years in public service. She served as the Ambassador of the Principality of Liechtenstein to the United States of America from 2002 until July 2016. Prior to this assignment, she served as Liechtenstein’s Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York from 1990 – 2002. Ambassador Fritsche served as Vice-President and Member of the General Committee of the United Nations General Assembly during its 48th Session and as President of the International Association of Permanent Representatives to the UN from 1999 to 2002.

She joined the Office of Foreign Affairs of the Principality of Liechtenstein in 1978 and served in a variety of diplomatic functions, inter alia as Secretary to the Liechtenstein parliamentary delegations to the Council of Europe and to the European Free Trade Association, as well as within the Liechtenstein Embassies in Berne and Vienna and the Permanent Representation to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
Mrs. Fritsche represented the Liechtenstein Government on the European Committee on Equality between Women and Men from 1987 to 1990, while also chairing the Liechtenstein National Committee on Equality between Women and Men. She was the personal secretary to the Liechtenstein Prime Minister from 1970 to 1974.

Mrs. Fritsche is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Liechtenstein Art Museum and she serves on the Board of the Liechtenstein Human Rights Association. She is also a member of the International Advisory Council of APCO Worldwide, a global consultancy firm in Washington DC.

Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island, conferred upon Mrs. Fritsche the degree of Doctor of Humane Letters in May 2016. H.S.H. Prince Hans-Adam II presented her with the Commander’s Cross of the Princely Liechtenstein Order of Merit in September 2016.
