Michael F. Davie serves as professor emeritus at the Université de Tours (France), and as researcher at the CNRS-UMR Espaces, Nature et Culture unit at the Sorbonne University, Paris.
Michael Davie’s research focuses on the issues of urban identity in cities of the Near East, particularly in Beirut. As such, he has directed doctoral dissertations and published academic articles on this issue, and takes a particular interest in the spatial expression, on all scales, of the forms of identity and belonging of Beirut’s inhabitants.
The concepts of neoliberalism and postmodernity are central to grasp both the material and intangible spatial expressions of Beirut’s individuals and groups.
