On February 28, 2012, under the High Patronage and in the presence of H.E. Mrs. Rida Mariette Aljure Salame, Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to Lebanon, The Faculty of Music and The Centre of Studies and Cultures of Latin America at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik organized a concert entitled “The Various Rhythms of Latino-American and Colombian Music”. This event took place in collaboration with The Embassy of the Republic of Colombia in Lebanon and The College of the Marist Brothers in Jbeil.
The concert was attended by H.E. Mr. Paolo Di Ventura, Brazilian Ambassador to Lebanon, Rev. Fr. Youssef Tannous, Dean of The Faculty of Music, Br. Carlos Mario McWain, Director of the College of the Marist Brothers, and Mr. Roberto Khatlab, Director of the Centre of Studies and Cultures of Latin America. The audience also contained numerous students.
The band was composed of David Camilo Vallejos Palacios, traditional flautist, accompanied by Thierry Ghaouche, guitar, Tony Abrass, guitar, Walid Abi Ramia, guitar and Pascal Semerdjian, percussion-drums. They performed a number of Latino-American music genres, which echoed Latino-American and Colombian culture, including: Cumbia, Bambuco, Vallenato, Currulao, San Juanito, Bambuco sureño and Porro.
H.E. Mrs. Rida Mariette Aljure Salame took part in the concert, by performing some traditional Colombian songs.
