On April 23, 2012, under the Patronage of H.E. Mr. Gaby Layoun, Minister of Culture, The Student Affairs Office, in collaboration with both The Centre of Studies and Cultures of Latin America and The International Relations Office, at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, organized a Cultural Diversity Day. Several embassies, artisans, international organizations, NGOs, and diplomatic delegations participated in this event, in the presence of Mr. Naji Khoury, representative of the Minister of Culture, Rev. Fr. Hady Mahfouz, USEK President, Rev. Fr. Michel Abou Tacca, Secretary General, Rev. Fr. Boutros Eid, Director of the Student Affairs Office, Mr. Khalil Abboud, Vice-Director of the Student Affairs Office, Mr. Roberto Khatlab, Director of the Centre of Studies and Cultures of Latin America and Mrs. Rima Matar, Director of The International Relations Office.
The participation of various embassies, consulates and cultural centres gave added value to the event, by turning the USEK campus into an international village, transmitting culture to students and to the public in general. More than 30 foreign embassies and cultural centres took part in the event and diplomatic delegations provided the public with necessary information about their relative countries; particularly with references to higher education institutions for students who wished to pursue their studies abroad. In addition, the event included a number of artistic and musical shows and also culinary presentations.
Moreover, the event hosted a number of modern artists from Lebanon, particularly Mr. Jacques Menassa, Photographer Emeritus, exhibiting his photograph collection entitled “Amazonia - Color and Beauty”, and Mrs. Iryna Novytska-Zein, Artist, exhibiting acrylic paintings. Students from the Faculty of Music also performed a number of folklore dances and songs, with the participation of international bands and artists, as well as various comedy shows.
