The Maronite Odyssey : Cultural Contributions Across Eastern and Western Civilizations

About

The Maronites have a rich cultural heritage spanning centuries, showcased through significant milestones. In 1584, the Maronite College was founded in Rome, laying the groundwork for a scholarly tradition. The Maronite Synod of 1736 introduced mandatory education for youth, leading to the establishment of numerous schools in Lebanon and abroad. During the 17th and 18th centuries, Maronite scholars and their students translated Western works into Arabic, fostering education and igniting a pre-renaissance in the Levant. In the 19th century, they played a pivotal role in the Arabic Renaissance, founding presses, publishing books, and launching journals, while spreading their cultural legacy globally through the diaspora. Today, the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik continues to uphold this heritage through innovative programs and publications, ensuring its enduring influence worldwide.

We warmly invite you to explore this remarkable story at our exhibition, where 23 carefully curated panels bring to life the Maronites’ enduring contributions to global heritage. Join us and be inspired by a legacy that spans centuries and continents!
