Joumana Mdawar was born in Zouk Mikael, Lebanon as the youngest in a family of five. She started singing religious carols and hymns in St. Charbel Church, Adonis and Notre Dame des Secours Church, Zouk Mikael.
Joumana holds a degree in Musicology from the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK), wherein she has been teaching solfege and music theory. She was also a member of the USEK Choir for several years. In 2000, the movie Litakoun Mashi’atouk marked the debut of her professional singing career with composer Joseph F. Khalife and was followed by her first video clip, “Haloumi Ya Jamilati”, in addition to 14 local religious video clips and three international ones shot abroad: “Edith Stein”, “Therese of Lisieux” and “Elizabeth of the Trinity”.
Joumana participated in the beatification of St. Neemtallah Hardini and in the canonization ceremonies of St.Rafqa and St. Neemtallah Hardini in Rome – Italy, as well as in the beatifications of Abouna Yaaqoub and Brother Estephan Nehme in Lebanon. In 1997, Joumana gave a special performance in the presence of Pope John Paul II. Her dedication to the Church led her to be fully committed to the 77-day visit of the relics of St. Therese of Lisieux to Lebanon and Iraq in 2002.
Joumana performs an average of 50 concerts per year in Lebanon, in addition to concerts abroad in France, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Canada, the United States, Nigeria, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Qatar, Iraq, Bahrain, Australia, and Brazil. She has released several albums on the local and international scene, all composed by Joseph F. Khalife with lyrics written by a variety of authors.
Joumana received many local and international awards, such as the Pope John Paul II Award and the Said Akl Award.
In short, Joumana’s primary interest in life is to sing and worship Jesus at all times.
